Annual Holiday Artist Market Returns to Mount Clemens

The Anton Art Center, located in Mount Clemens, is combining the holiday spirit and their mission, to enrich and inspire people of all ages through the arts, in a massive way. The Holiday Market, one of the largest art markets in Macomb County, will be hosted at the Anton Art Center again this year. Featuring unique, one-of-a-kind gifts and holiday décor, the Holiday Market is a great place to find that special something for the holiday season.

Volunteers, staff, and artists alike have been working hard to get this seasonal art market ready in time, and after a reduced Holiday Market in 2020 due to the pandemic, they are ready for it to be bigger than ever. “Online shopping and convenient in-store pickup will still be available this year,” shared Phil Gilchrist, Executive Director at the Anton Art Center, “but we are excited to have a much larger selection for in-person shopping this year! People come from all over to shop at the Holiday Market. There are just so many unique items from Michigan artists, it is a sight to be seen.” The Holiday Market is the premier shopping event for locally made holiday items, gifts, and decor. With over 115 Michigan artists represented, there will be more than 10,000 items from fine art to hand-crafted holiday goods, ceramics, jewelry, stocking stuffers, and more.

Part of the reason the Holiday Market has become the Anton Art Center’s holiday shopping extravaganza is it not only helps support the Anton Art Center to provide art programs to the community, but it also supports Michigan artists. “The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have hit a lot of people in different ways, artists included.” continues Phil Gilchrist, “When events and art fairs were put on hold for public safety, artists had fewer opportunities to sell their artwork. Art markets, like the Holiday Market, are important opportunities for artists to sell their work and generate income. We’re hoping this year’s Holiday Market can help make up for some of the struggles from last year.” In prior years, the Holiday Market has helped Michigan artists earn over $40,000 from sales. Additionally, the Anton Art Center hosts a Meet The Artists Reception during the Art Market, a once a year opportunity to mingle with the artisans behind the artworks.

The Holiday Market takes over the entire main floor of the Anton Art Center and is open from November 18 to December 23, 2021. The Holiday Market open hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11AM to 3PM, Thursdays from 12PM to 8PM, Saturdays from 10AM to 5PM, and Fridays and Sundays from 12PM to 5PM. In addition to the Meet The Artist Reception on November 21, from 1PM to 3PM, the Holiday Market will also be open for the Downtown Mount Clemens Open House on November 19, from 6PM to 8PM. All visitors, staff, and volunteers will be required to wear a mask for entry regardless of vaccination status.

After you shop at the Holiday Market, you can also visit the newest exhibition at the Anton Art Center Unity & Balance, from Thursday, November 18 2021 through December 23, 2021. This exhibition consists of 41 mosaic artworks by 13 members of the Mosaic Artists of Michigan artist group. The exhibition will feature a variety of techniques and styles of mosaic art. You can also shop at the Holiday Market during the December SatARTday, on Saturday, December 11 until 8pm. SatARTdays are a monthly art program hosted by the Anton Art Center and sponsored by First State Bank, to bring art to the community and is free and open to the public.
