Grand Rapids Ballet Companies Collaborate on Upcoming Presentation

Deos Contemporary Ballet and Michigan Ballet Academy to join forces to present “Enchanted Tales”, a unique collaborative performance featuring a professional ballet company and a pre-professional school onstage together for the first time.  “Enchanted Tales” runs April 29th – May 1st at the Jenison Center for the Arts.

The program features two all-new interpretations of the classic tales of “Snow White” and Stravinsky’s powerful “The Firebird”, both choreographed by Deos Creative Director, Tess Sinke.  Sinke’s work is known for focusing on strong female leads who can “save themselves”, officially pushing the damsel in distress role under the rug.  Deos’ professional dancers have danced across the country and internationally for such companies as Atlanta Ballet, Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Aspen Santa Fe, PNB, Saint Louis Ballet, and Louisville Ballet before making the move to Deos’ female-run company.

“Enchanted Tales” runs April 29th – May 1st at the Jenison Center for Performing Arts in Jenison and promises to be an evening of magic, true love, and fun for the whole family.

Tickets are available now at deosballet.com or michiganballet.org.

As Grand Rapids’ second professional ballet company, Deos Contemporary Ballet was founded in 2018 and has been focusing on community outreach and children’s performances to bring ballet to a wider audience in the city.  Deos’s company culture is focused on the dancer first, believing that if an artist feels supported and healthy they are more likely to perform at their absolute best.  Led by Grand Rapids native, Tess Sinke, Deos hope to Inspire (a) Movement in West Michigan and eventually the world at large.

Michigan Ballet Academy has long been known for their exceptional dance training, with over 14 students going on to professional careers around the world in just their 11 years since inception.  Originally founded by former Grand Rapids Ballet Principal Dancers Akop and Gaiane Akopian, MBA has continued their legacy of impeccable technique, artistry, and passion for the art form while creating strong and compassionate dancers.
