Live Music, Theatre and More Announced for the New Front Porch at Midland Center for the Arts
Continuing to fulfill their mission in the Summer of 2021 in creative ways, Midland Center for the Arts is excited to bring back even more live music, shows and entertainment as part of a new summer series. “What began last year as a way for us to continue presenting live events during the pandemic, has now inspired us to explore creating new and unique events on the ‘Front Porch’ of our building,” said Midland Center’s President & CEO Terri Trotter.
The “Front Porch” is the pop-up stage and event space the Center has created at the front entrance of the building. With two separate spaces that can accommodate up to 300 people each, the Center has a robust series of events and productions that will take place in these outdoor socially distanced venues this summer.
From “Curbside Comedy” Nights to GRAMMY® Award-winning musicians, and from magicians to community theatre productions, the season offers something for everyone. “We are excited for a wide range of activities in this outdoor space to bring our community back together to laugh, think and discover through performing arts experiences,” added Trotter.
The summer series kicks off with a high-energy, interactive magic show featuring THE AMAZING MAX, the GRAMMY® Award-winning folk duo OKEE DOKEE BROTHERS, and the industrial style drumming and award-winning break-dancing troupe best described as “Glee meets Stomp,” VOCAL TRASH.
The top high school talent in the Great Lakes Bay Region will come together to present the 1950s rock and roll musical hit GREASE and a symphonic concert of masterworks with the GREAT LAKES BAY STRING INTENSIVE, followed by Center Stage Theatre’s return to the stage in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. The Pendulum Lounge will remain open all summer, with an extended footprint on the Front Porch every Thursday evening from 4:30 – 8 p.m., and Curbside Comedy, a fan favorite, returning on the 4th Thursday of every month.
All events will be outdoors, socially distanced, with masks required when not seated for the performance. Specialty cocktails, beer, wine and small plates will be available for most performances from the Pendulum Lounge menu. Tickets for the summer series of events are now on sale by visiting MidlandCenter.org/FrontPorch.
